Mix Max in Cameroun

Hey everybody! Well, my friend, a man from Cameroun, is a member of a foundation in that country. In june 2009, he's gonna go back there to celebrate the foundation's 10th anniversary. He told me how he was trying to find ideas to help his people get a better condition. He told me that in some hospitals there, patients have to sleep 2 per bed because there is not enough for everyone. I find it disturbing to think that the sick may sleep with the injured, I'm sure you see my point, so I thought it would be wonderful to find a solution here. I was thinking of the canadian army's beds, which they souldn't use forever. I might proceed to get information on this case, but I wanted to know if any of you have an idea for that? You see, sending old beds (not matresses, I guess, coz its unhygienical) to another country could cost some money ;) so if you know of any organization that could help us get the money for one shipment I would appreciate you tell me please...

Good News Calgary!

Good news everyone! The mayor's office answered me, you gotta read that:

Dear Guillaume Coziol-Lesperance,

Thank you for your recent e-mail to Mayor Bronconnier. Mayor Bronconnier has had the opportunity to review your e-mail and has asked me to respond on his behalf.

You may be pleased to know that the Council-approved residential curbside recycling program will begin in 2009 to provide weekly, door-to-door collection for 300,000 single family homes.  The program will collect and recycle newspapers, magazines, mixed paper, cardboard, food cans, glass, milk cartons, milk jugs and - for the first time - plastic containers (numbers 1 through 7).  And, it will be even easier for Calgarians to participate as there will be no need to sort recyclable materials.  The program fee will be $8/month/household and participating homes will also receive a recycling cart.  This program will reduce the amount of recyclable material ending up in our landfill and is an important step to achieving 80 per cent diversion of materials from landfills by 2020.   For more information on this program, please see www.calgary.ca/recycling
Today, you can recycle plastic bags, milk jugs and cartons at The City's neighbourhood depots. Many other containers like plastic cups and bottles are returned to local bottle depots. For a list of locations call 1-800-463-6326, check the Yellow Pages under Bottle Depots, or visit  the Beverage Container Management Board at http://www.bcmb.ab.ca/
We look forward to your continued participation in The City's recycling program.  Thanks for taking the time to share your comments with Mayor Bronconnier.

Best regards,

Letter to the mayor

Hi! I have written a letter to the mayor of Calgary. Here is the copy.

Hello!

My name is Guillaume Coziol-Lesperance, and I am a french Canadian from Quebec, resident of Calgary since 2007.

The reason of this letter is that we have noticed, as a group of residents, that only plastic bottles and bags were allowed in the recycling bins around the city. We know it is possible to recycle more plastic products, for it is already done in other provinces. Please consider that it would be very good for our children to be raised in a green city; as green as it can be, including the recycling of every possibly recyclable plastic. Thank you!

Also, I would like the City of Calgary to consider the problem of the distance. I personaly have to drive 10 minutes to go to the nearest recycling bin. Certainly it is a bit contradictory to burn fuel in order to preserve the environment. As my case is not the only one, most residents of Calgary have to do the same (some do not recycle "because" of this distance issue). Please understand that it would be much better to establish another system, more efficient, making recycling easier for residents and creating jobs, like they do in other provinces with trucks and residential green boxes, for example.

Thank you for your consideration.

Sincerely

Guillaume Coziol-Lesperance

Recycling

Hi! Im glad we got a group in Calgary :) that's awesome. Lets bring more people. My name is Guillaume, and I'm a french Canadian from Quebec. I am used to the green recycling box that pretty much the whole Canada use, but not Calgary. I think that people here just don't know about it. The flyers idea is great for making people vote for a green mayor and thinking about recycling, but I know people are a bit lazy about going to the bin. Very few do it, really. So I propose to make a petition run though the web, so we could actually convince the city to find an investor and start picking up recycling behind our houses. I will search for an official standard for petitions on the web...
