Leonardo DiCaprio's "The 11th Hour" is a documentary concerning the environmental crises caused by human actions and calls for restorative action through a reshaping of human activity.
The mission of our community is to inspire action at every level: from
individual action, up through our communities, to the state, national
and international level. The actions are all shifting our civilization
to a sustainable future. Let's work and take action together. The time is now. The hope is you. Let's begin.
I think you are onto some great lifestyle change ideas! Using cloths instead of paper towels is a responsible and much better option than using virgin-paper towels once and throwing them away. Also, re-using dishes and utensils is a must - plastic/paper substitutes do cut down on dish time but add so much to our landfills. Do you know that 75% of products in America are used once and then thrown away? Wow!
You are on the right track. It's our responsibility to turn our wasteful habits around where possible. May I also suggest buying a re-usable water bottle to replace any bottled water you buy and taking re-usable mugs to your coffee shops. Water bottles take up to 700 years to decompose in a landfill, and still leave plastic fragments in our earth because they can never fully decompose. I have sworn these off forever.
Share the rest of your ideas with us and let us know how they come along! Some other easy things that I have found very effective is turning off lights, taking shorter showers, and unplugging electronics when I'm not using them.
