Trying to find solutions on a personal level

This is the year we have decided to do all we can to lower our carbon footprint in our own life as we are tired of waiting for governments to act.
After much searching we found a wonderful young man, Andy, to install solar panels on our house. Combining them with our wood burning stove to heat our water at all times of the year and due to his clever configuration this will also heat our house. Gone is the smelly old oil combi boiler and now we feel we are in control of our emissions. Unfortunately since installing the solar panels we seem to be into of a phase of cloudy days with monsoon rains but we are sure the sun will shine again one day and the wood burner is keeping the damp at bay
We have also installed new efficient double glazing in our windows. Of course our light bulbs are effecient and much effort is put into recycling.
We are lucky to have a bus outside our door and a train service at the foot of the hill so we have cut down on the use of our considerably recently. All we need to do now is to get the bus service to coordinate with the train service.
We are lucky to live close to The Center For Alternative Technology, CAT which recently launched an inspirational document Zerocarbonbritain http://www.zerocarbonbritain.com/ Now with the 11th Hour coming out I feel much more hope for the future and the exciting times that lie ahead.
