1. Get Moving The Youth Bicycle Education Network (YBEN) links, supports, and strengthens organizations that use the bicycle as a vehicle for youth development and community building. Built strong and with sustainable materials, COMET cares as much about the materials used in their skateboards as they do the people riding them. These boards are constructed with sustainable woods, bio-based epoxies, and finished using non-toxic, water-based paints with low VOC coatings. For COMET it's all about meeting the demands of an unrelenting environment and the skater who is a part of it. When you join the COMET RIDERS ORG you will receive an exclusive COMET RIDERS ORG t-shirt after your first board purchase (not available anywhere else), essential pack, free shipping on all orders in the U.S., entry into monthly raffle, and the COMET Monthly newsletter which features upcoming events and special releases. 5. Recycle Check out the story of Recycle City… Just a few years ago, this place was called Dumptown. For years, the folks living here hadn't thought much about where waste went when they threw it out. And, eventually, that became a very BIG problem... The garbage heap grew and began to smell. Sometimes it caught fire, sending toxic smoke into the air and making it hard for everyone to breathe. They knew they had to fix it. Finally, they closed the old city dump and built a new solid waste landfill outside of town. With the town's new image, it needed a new name, and Recycle City was born. Travel around Recycle City and find out what folks here are doing to reduce waste and make the environment better. At Earth 911, you'll find information, fun games and activities, great environmental links, and more, just for your grade level. |

6. Eat Less Meat Take the red pill and watch the critically-acclaimed, award-winning first episode of The Meatrix Trilogy. Maybe you recycle, pick up litter, or conserve energy in your home. But did you know that if you want to help the Earth, the best thing you can do is to stop eating meat? On 1 acre of land, you can grow 20,000 pounds of potatoes, or you can grow 165 pounds of beef in the same space. About 87 percent of the farmland in the U.S. is used to raise animals for food. Producing one fast-food hamburger uses enough fuel to drive a small car 20 miles and enough energy for 17 showers. Learn more about the effects of eating meat at PETAKiDS.com. |
