Green Your Office

I work at a restaurant that uses a lot of plastic that is simply thrown away. I am going to encourage them to provide a place where we can put these recyclables to be processed and used for something again.

Notre mission   Notre missio est de sensibiliser, d'informer et d'inciter les citoyens de Terrebonne au recyclage, à l'herbicyclage, au compostage ainsi qu'à la cause environnementale en générale. Notre rôle est aussi de leur faire prendre conscience du problème environnemental et que c'est aussi le souci de chaque individu vivant sur cette planète. Il y a tant à faire.

I have been researching the web for eco friendly products to give my office a green makeover. As a gadget geek i love owning the latest technology. Yet there is a barrier between what is purchased and what shouldn't be purchsed because of unnessasary materials and power usage. I gave myself a dream and a goal to purchase a new eco friendly computer for my office. As many of you may know there are several options out there in the computer section which can be purchased with eco friendly options. Dell, HP, APPLE, and several other computer producing companies have been doing there best to keep up with the demand of a greener world. I thought it would be more efficient and knowledgable if i built my own from scratch so that i would know exactally what i would be putting into my new purchase. I wanted a computer with power capabilities to do massive web design out put and graphics, plus be able to play some simple computer games and fast paced internet searching.

low power consumption in the AC adapter- a special Power source as large as a quarrter, and efficient

Tiny in size compared to the massive towers they build today- It's about a 7Wx7Wx2.5 H

a fast processor, but not too fast that it consumse more power, or is less efficient

HARD DRIVES- low power consumption, I chose a low power 320GB WD Scorpio Black HD- 2.5" laptop drive

Built in efficient Graphics chip- NO CARDS

EXternal HD- 1 TB eco friendly, 30% more efficient HD

Eco Friendly Motherboard- uses less harmful or toxic chemicals in the production process

Samsung 24" Energy Star rated HDTV monitor

Wound up with a Dual Core Processor 4850e 2.50GHz

4GB RAM

32 bit operating system- lower power consumption than a 64bit

I am pleased to say this runs like a powerful beast without the consumption of a gas hog!

Myself and a fellow co-worker are getting together with the site director to implement recycling bins so we can sort tin cans, plastics, paper and green bins for composing so we can reduce to amount of garbage that the call centre produces everyday. We already recycle our bottles and cans only because of the money behind it but we fell we could be doing more

I teach at the university about environmental themes and about the need of change our attitudes and actions.

ELIMINATE OUR OWN CO2 WHILE AT THE OFFICE

I NEED TO FIGURE OUT HOW MUCH CO2 A TYPICAL OFFICE PLANT CAN REDUCE/CLEAN...NEED TO DO SOME RESEARCH.....

IS IT POSSIBLE THAT I CAN ELIMINATE ALL OF THE CO2 I GENERATE WHILE SITTING AT MY DESK FROM PLANTS!

We have signed up for bulk mail reduction, phone book stoppage and use white boards instead of paper where possible. We also use only recycled paper.

Yes, they can be adorable, fun, and even relaxing. However, while you're glancing at puppies, your favorite movies, or white sand beaches, stop to consider this: screen savers use energy while you're not using your computer! Forecast Earth correspondent Don Willmott explains, "in the good old days of tube monitors, screen savers such as those unforgettable flying toasters were invented to prevent burn-in, a permanent shadow branded into the phosphors of your monitor by a static image…well, flat-screen LCD monitors don't burn in.”  So, take action and when not using your computer either put it to sleep (yep, that’s what that function is for) or turn it off and unplug it.

Turn my office green !!!!

Obtaining water, packaging water, the content (plastic mostly) that water is housed in, and the weight of water as it relates to transportation and footprint on the climate crisis is ridiculous.  Most countries and most people have little or no access to clean water whatsoever.  Here is America we do not have an endless supply but we sometimes treat it like we do.  Worst off, we take water from far reaching corners of the world where water is scarce, and ship it to our markets, gas stations, you name it.  Brands like Eternal water from Fiji, Evian from France, etc.  Even water that is bottled 100 miles away and brought to market is not responsible action on our part and not fair to the environment.  To this end, my cooperative, as most grocery stores have water machines that distribute filtered, LOCAL water.  My action is to eliminate all bottled water (i.e.-primarily gallons and hand held plastic bottles) and sell recycled, renewable containers and encourage people to use these or bring in their own containers if they want water.  My next action is in my bulk department where I plan to reward with money off of a purchase when people bring in their own bags, jars, etc.  That is down the line...
