Well its time to bonsai...

Description:
Well its time to bonsai...I guess thats how i see my life.  Re potting, trimming off the old, the dead and the unusable in order to start shaping and wiring my life back into a beautiful form to increase harmony with my surroundings. It may be a weird analogy but i think it fits the way i see the world.  We are all bonsai and in order to achieve harmony with our environment we must change things about ourselves. wither it be how much we drive or the products we buy or whatever...but in the end we must bonsai our lives to rebuild our world.

The Next Step

Status:
In Progress
Description:
Now that we've begun to change, I see no reason to stop at just a few things. There are many things that we are looking into and have begun to implement. Such as green cleaners and detergents, green fertilizers, and possibly even green insulation for the house. We cannot replace everything all at once, but as things run out, we pledge to replace them with more eco-friendly options.

Going Green

Status:
Complete
Description:

I live in a place, where fertilizers and pesticides are something very new in farming, as new as 4-5 years back. I gew up with organic food, and vegetables from my backyard. My father is an environmental activist, and I started banning the use of plastic from a very small age. I stayed in United States for 3 years for my education, and my biggest problem there was the food! I feel very sorry for the developed countries for their quality of food. Even the fruits and vegetables and injected with preservaties. forget the meat. so we need to start changing fast!

we have been trying to stop mass farming in Nepal and continue the sustainable way of farming.

How i'm Making a Difference

Description:

ive talked to all my friends about going green and almost all of them have started to go green and we are actually setting up an enviromental club at our schoolnext year

ive gotten my parents to buy mostly organic/local foods there are a couple things that we need to still work on but other than that we are doing pretty well. i just started asking if we could put up a veggie garden in the back yard... they said no so far but i plan on asking again soon

i try to help keep the water supply cleaner by picking up the trash on the side of the road so its doesnt end up in the river/ in an animals mouth.there isnt too much else i can do for this problem considering im only 14

i car pool allll the time i try to give rides to friends and when im not in my car im getting a ride with another friend tend to share stuff too such as a water bottle or something that way they dont have to go buy one and then have to recycle two bottles just one and stuff like that

i have done an audit for my lifestyle it was pretty bad but im improoving. i try to have my lights off when not needed and try to stay away from cooking with the oven and just fixing something up and try to put my comp to sleep or turn off the computer when not in use depending if i plan on coming back in a couple minutes. when going to friends houses and going to the store and stuff i try to walk/run/or bike. i try not to use a car

im appart of serveral online enviromental groups and try to buy things from them to support them for what they're doing for the enviroment. i send every e-mail i get from the groups to let them know whats going on and how they can help and stuff like that

the only thing im having trouble with is turning my home green.....

because i am only 14 i dont have much "power" over the household

my mother wants to do something as well but my step father wants nothing to do with it and will not help in anyway

sometimes making it worse by littering, not recycling, taking long drives to no where, things that are an easy fix right?

no its deffinately been a challenge with him

im trying to convince them that we should switch our lightbulbs and my step father keeps bringing the point up of the murcury inside the lightbulb can be harmful.... and it is but only if the lightbulb is broken

does anyone have any idea how i can change his mind???

I would like to see as many people informed as possible.  I speak freely with those I dont even know, so just the words out there, help to spread the news.  Those that dont accept it will eventually be the minority as long as it gets passed around.  Being able to speak with authority takes action based statements, so it is vital that on a personal level we are conscious of our actions, and pass along our reasonings with everyone close to us, especially our children.

It takes one step at a time, this will have a positive snowball effect once it gets moving, until then I have to keep pushing forward with even the smallest amount I can muster.  This is and will remain to be the key for a lasting effect.
