Leonardo DiCaprio's "The 11th Hour" is a documentary concerning the environmental crises caused by human actions and calls for restorative action through a reshaping of human activity.
The mission of our community is to inspire action at every level: from
individual action, up through our communities, to the state, national
and international level. The actions are all shifting our civilization
to a sustainable future. Let's work and take action together. The time is now. The hope is you. Let's begin.
My wife and I bought a house less than 1/2 mile from my place of employment. I often ride my bike to work, but since moving here, we use very little gasoline (less than a tank of gas per month.)
This action is on hold because I have knee problems since i was 15 years old, but i'm taking care of it... My objective is, next year, use bicycle to go to my university in the morning and in afternoon... And by night I'll must use my 999cc (gasoline fuel) car to go, because i have to take my girlfriend and her brother with me...
I do not own a car so I cycle/walk/use public transport where necessary. I buy my electricity from Good Energy. I recycle card, paper, glass, cans, foil, plastic bottles, Tetrapaks, textiles and compost all my green waste in a wormery.
Now is getting one year since my wife and me got rid of our old car. Now we manage well with public transport, bike conmuting, walking, rolling and very seldom, car-sharing and car renting.
I am surprise because we thought it would be harder to kick the car habit. We bought a small 50cc motorbike as an alternative, but we don't need it neither. So i think we soon will sell it third hand.
I have replaced light bulbs and household cleaners with enery efficient and environmently friendly products. When going to the local store or anywhere in my small town my girls and i walk or ride a bike. We have canceld rarely used entertainment such as extra computer and channels on our television. I am also turning my front yard garden into a vegtable garden and i dont care what my stuck up neibours think.
