However, while you're glancing at puppies, your favorite movies, or white sand beaches, stop to consider this: screen savers use energy while you're not using your computer! Forecast Earth correspondent Don Willmott explains, "in the good old days of tube monitors, screen savers such as those unforgettable flying toasters were invented to prevent burn-in, a permanent shadow branded into the phosphors of your monitor by a static image…well, flat-screen LCD monitors don't burn in.”  So, take action and when not using your computer either put it to sleep (yep, that’s what that function is for) or turn it off and unplug it.
