    Reuseable Bags are the best way to go. And you don't just have to use them when shopping for groceries. I take mine everywhere I go, the mall, the petstore, farmersmarket, you name. I know sometimes the worry with that is that you look like your going to steal something but I've yet to have an incident where someone acuses me of that. Also, if you forget your bag when shopping, just don't use any at all. It may seem like a big deal at first but it's really not. Many natural stores are glad to see someone doing this. I don't even use any bags for say when I get a bunch of apples, they don't get dinged up so the bag doesn't really serve a purpose. It's about recycling yes, but also reducing =)
